This Vegan Philly Cheesesteak is savory, melty, and cheesy, with an unforgettable flavor. My take on the classic sandwich features seitan steak, mushrooms, garlic, vegan cheese, and all the traditional toppings, including peppers, and onions.
Vegan Philly cheesesteaks are typically made with seitan, which is basically wheat gluten that has been seasoned and shaped to resemble steak. Seitan is then grilled and topped with onions, peppers, cheese (vegan, of course), and spices.
The result is a sandwich that resembles the original, but without the meat. Each bite is a delicious blend of textures and tastes. This comfort food is hearty, filling, and easy to make.
How to make Vegan Philly Cheesesteak
The key to making a great vegan philly cheesesteak is in the preparation.
First, you’ll need to simmer the onions, peppers, garlic, and salt with avocado oil in a large skillet over low heat until they are soft. Then, add in your vegan seitan and mushrooms and cook until browned. Lastly, add the slices of cheese to the pan and cook until melted. Next, it’s time to assemble the sandwiches. Start by toasting the bun if desired, then fill with the cooked onions and peppers and the vegan seitan steak.
Finally, feel free to add any additional toppings, such as BBQ sauce or hot sauce. Now all that’s left to do is enjoy your delicious vegan philly cheesesteak! Thanks for following along, and bon appetit!
