This Vegan Philly Cheesesteak is savory, melty, and cheesy, with an unforgettable flavor. My take on the classic sandwich features vegan steak, mushrooms, garlic, vegan cheese, and all the traditional toppings, including peppers, and onions.
Vegan Philly cheesesteaks are typically made with a plant-based “steak,” such as Beyond Meat’s Beyond Steak, or another steak-like alternative. This “meat” is then sautéed in oil and mushrooms, and topped with onions, red and green bell peppers, vegan cheese, and spices.
This delicious comfort food is hearty, filling, and incredibly easy to make.
How to make Vegan Philly Cheesesteak
The key to making a great vegan philly cheesesteak is in the preparation. First, you’ll need to simmer the onions, peppers, garlic, and salt with avocado oil in a large skillet over low heat until they are soft. Then, add in your vegan “seitan” meat and mushrooms and cook until browned. Lastly, add the slices of cheese to the pan and cook until melted. Next, it’s time to assemble the sandwiches. Start by toasting the bun if desired, then fill with the cooked onions and peppers and the vegan seitan steak.
