This vegan Gnocchi all’Arrabbiata is spicy, rich, and comforting!

This Italian pasta dish gets its name from the Italian word for “angry,” referring to the fiery flavor of the sauce. It’s often made with Penne pasta, however, I had some gnocchi I wanted to use, and decided to throw together a Gnocchi all’Arrabbiata instead! I’m so glad I did – because this easy vegan recipe is divine.

This plant-based dinner is a very simple dish, but it can be varied depending on your personal preference. That said, it’s easy to make and shouldn’t take more than 25 minutes total!

How to Make of Gnocchi all’Arrabbiata

    Gnocchi all’Arrabbiata (Vegan!)

Begin by adding olive oil into a large pan or Dutch oven set over medium heat. Add finely chopped onion and cook until softened and fragrant, about 5 minutes. Next, stir in minced garlic and a pinch of red pepper flakes, allowing the flavors to bloom for about 30 seconds.

Pour in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, salt, and dried oregano, and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking. During this time, cook your gnocchi according to the package instructions.

Once the sauce has thickened slightly, season it generously with salt and pepper to taste. Gently fold the cooked gnocchi into the sauce, coating each dumpling with the vibrant tomato mixture.

To serve, ladle the gnocchi all’arrabbiata into bowls, and if desired, garnish with basil(dried or fresh), Parmesan cheese, and extra oregano. Enjoy!

    Tips:

    • For a spicier sauce, add more red pepper flakes.
    • If you don’t have crushed tomatoes, you can use diced tomatoes.
    • To make this dish gluten-free, use gluten-free pasta.
    • You can also add other vegetables to this dish, such as spinach, kale, or mushrooms.
